Connecting to the Wireless Network

These instructions are specifically for the Linksys WPC11 card on Windows 2000. The most important step is to disable all network services except TCP/IP. Doing this will speed up your connection (and that of other users on the network).

Follow the setup instructions that came with your wireless card. Once the hardwire and drivers have been successfully installed, do the following:

  1. Click on Start, then click on Control Panel
  2. Double-click on Network and Dial-up Connections

  3. Double-click on Local Area Connection (If you have more than one “Local Area Connection” icon, open the one with the highest number after it: ex. Between “Local Area Connection 1” and “Local Area Connection 2", double-click on “Local Area Connection 2”)

  4. In the Local Area Connection Properties window, in the box: “Components checked are used by this connection:”, uncheck all the options except Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then click OK.

  5. Close all the previous windows. The wireless card will try to connect to the network automatically.

You should now be connected to the Regent College Wireless Network!

Problems?

If you still have trouble connecting, stop by the Wireless Support Desk (Mondays & Thursdays 12-1pm in the Regent-Carey Library).
