Transit & U-Pass Information

Transit Around Greater Vancouver

The Vancouver region's transit system is operated by the Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority under the name Translink. The bus, SeaBus, and SkyTrain systems are (for the most part) convenient and easy to use. Visit the Translink website for full details including maps, trip planners and schedules.

The U-Pass provides unlimited access to the bus, SeaBus, and SkyTrain Systems in all zones.  It costs $107.00 per term for Regent Students.  A one zone Transit Pass for the same length of time costs $276.00.  The U-Pass fee is non-refundable after December 12, 2009 for the Winter Term 2009, and April 16, 2010 for Summer Term 2010, even if you drop or withdraw from any or all of your courses.

A list of students who are eligible to pick up their Summer Term 2010 U-Passes will be available on this website under Academic Info / Schedules & Forms in late-April.

U-Pass Frequently Asked Questions

Who can get a U-Pass in the Fall and Winter terms?

All Regent students registered for 4 or more credit and/or audit hours will pay for a U-Pass.  Students registered for 3 credit and/or audit hours may choose to purchase a U-Pass by opting in to all the Student Fees, which include the AMS, RCSA, and AMS Health and Dental Plan fees. Students who register for 1 or 2 credit and/or audit hours are not eligible to pay Student Fees (including the U-Pass Fee). However, students who pay a Thesis Continuation Fee in the Fall term may choose to pay Student Fees in the Fall and/or Winter term, which includes the Fall and/or Winter U-Pass Fee.

Students who hold a valid handyDART, disability, or CNIB pass are not eligible for a U-Pass.

Students can be exempted from the U-Pass fee if any of the following apply: a) you are enrolled exclusively in Distance Education courses, b) you are taking classes at Regent for, on average, one day or less per week during those weeks that the course is in session, c) you live outside of the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) and are not taking an on-campus course at Regent (e.g., completing a thesis from a distance).

Will a Summer U-Pass be available?

Yes, to eligible students. Click here for further information about the Summer 2010 U-Pass.

Where and when can I pick up my U-Pass?

By paying the student fees, Regent students are also eligible for a UBC card, which is photo ID that allows access to UBC libraries and other student services.  Students must first get their UBC cards to get their U-Passes.  Both of these are available in the Carding Office on the 1st floor of the UBC Bookstore, during its regular hours of 9:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, and 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday.  Before going to the Carding Office, check that your student number appears on the U-Pass Student ID List, provided on this website under Academic Info / Schedules & Forms. You must present photo ID when you pick up the UBC card and U-Pass.

Can I receive a subsidy for my U-Pass fee?

Yes, subsidies are available.  For further information, visit http://www.ams.ubc.ca/upass/

How can I benefit from the Federal Government Transit Tax Credit?

The registration statement listing the U-Pass fee serves as your receipt. It does not have to be submitted with your tax return when you claim the credit, but you should keep the statement for 5 years in case your return is audited.

Further U-Pass information may also be found at http://www.upass.ubc.ca/upass/.
